Residential Fire Sprinkler System Installation

A fire sprinkler system greatly reduces the risk of death or serious injury in the event of a fire. A sprinkler system also mitigates damage to property, potentially saving you from serious financial harm.

Whether it’s a residential building, or even for a home or block of flats, Pyrotech Sprinklers can design and install a fire sprinkler system to keep you and your property safe.

Residential fire sprinkler systems

Residential fire sprinkler systems refers to a wider range of living accommodations. This could be in care homes, sheltered housing, large blocks of flats and much more. Such buildings can house a lot of people, meaning that they are at a higher risk of fire, which is why it’s so important to have a professionally designed and installed sprinkler system.

Of course, this is doubly as important in residential buildings such as care homes or similar, where residents are potentially more vulnerable and may have limited movement. A sprinkler system could be the difference between life or death in such cases.

Our fire sprinkler system installation services

We’ve got over 10 years of experience in sprinkler system installation and maintenance.

  1. Our services include an initial discussion in which we’ll talk about the property, its requirements and needs, and how much it’s likely to cost.
  2. After that, we’ll move onto planned supervision, which involves attending site meetings and conducting quality assurance checks to ensure proper safety.
  3. The third step is project delivery. We’ll professionally install the right sprinkler system, ensuring that legal safety requirements are met and that your property is as safe as possible.
  4. Finally, we provide you with all legal documentation which is required and outlines all installation work.

Which residential buildings should have fire sprinkler systems?

There are a few different types of residential buildings which should have fire sprinkler systems:

  • Care homes – In England, all new care homes are required to install sprinkler systems. This is important because many care home residents are vulnerable and likely have limited movement capability.
  • Flat blocks – Any residential building which reaches above 11 meters from ground level is required to have a sprinkler system throughout the building. Sprinkler systems slow/limit the spread of a fire massively, which gives added protection to residents and property.
  • Hostels – It’s likely that there will be lots of people in a small space, with lots of flammable possessions such as clothes, deodorants and more. As a result, sprinkler systems in hostels are vital.
  • Existing buildings – Whilst it’s not a legal requirement to fit sprinklers in buildings which were constructed before regulations were updated, it’s still a very good idea to consider professional sprinkler installation to protect life and property.

How much does it cost to fit a domestic sprinkler system?

The cost of a domestic sprinkler system would vary largely based on the size of the building, legal requirements and a few other factors. We’d usually have to survey your property and designs to give you an accurate quote.

Can you install a fire sprinkler system yourself?

If you are not a professional, you cannot safely install a fire sprinkler system yourself. If you attempt to do so in a residential building, you could run into some legal consequences further down the road.

Legally, sprinkler systems must be designed and installed to adhere to BS 9251 guidelines. This legislation outlines specifics such as flow rates, sprinkler placements, number of sprinklers and more. Without expert installation, a sprinkler system will not meet these requirements, which could result in you being held accountable for property damage, and even loss of life.

So, for residential and domestic sprinkler installations, you need to get in touch with the professionals, such as Pyrotech Sprinklers.

Typical features of a fire sprinkler system:

The main benefit of an automatic fire suppression system is that they eliminate the need for human activation. Not only does this reduce the risk to occupants' safety, but it is also ideal for extinguishing fires in remote areas.

Detection

A system is activated by a heat-sensitive device, such as a glass bulb, which reacts to the heat of a fire and triggers the release of water from sprinkler heads.
1

Sprinkler Activation

Only the sprinkler heads in the area of the fire will activate when required, releasing water to suppress the fire and damages to the surrounding area.
2

Water Flow

When the heat-sensitive device is triggered, it opens a valve that allows water to flow from the main water supply through the pipes and out the sprinkler heads.
3

Containment

Water from the sprinkler heads help to contain the fire by keeping it from spreading to other areas of the building allowing people time to evacuate.
